StatSheet's Big Sky Player of the Week for March 4th goes to Derrick Barden from Northern Colorado. StatSheet's Big Sky Freshman of the Week goes to Northern Arizona's Dewayne Russell. And last but not least, Jordan Salley from Sacramento State is StatSheet's Big Sky 6th Man of the Week. Barden tallied great stats in assists (3 per game), shooting (60%), and scoring (23 pts per game). The Northern Colorado junior played well for the Bears in wins versus Eastern Washington and Portland State.
Barden topped all scoring and rebounding for the Bears with 28 points and 10 rebounds in a close 88-80 win over Eastern Washington. That was followed by 18 points and 8 rebounds in an 85-75 win over Portland State.
This is the first time that Derrick Barden has been named the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Tate Unruh, a junior from Northern Colorado. Honorable mention goes to junior Troy Huff from North Dakota.
StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week: Northern Arizona's Dewayne Russell
Dewayne Russell averaged 39 minutes starting both games for Northern Arizona. He bested all Big Sky freshmen in both assists (6.0 per game) and free throws (4.0 per game). In a 67-58 win over Idaho State, Russell contributed 13 points and 5 assists. In an 80-78 loss to Weber State, he put up 17 points and 7 assists.
This is the second StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week honor for Dewayne Russell. Tyler Harvey from Eastern Washington grabs runner-up. A.J. Hess from Southern Utah receives honorable mention.
StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week: Sacramento State's Jordan Salley
Junior Jordan Salley, a 6-6 reserve forward, played an average of 15 minutes over two games for the Hornets. In a 70-55 loss to Weber State, Salley put up 7 points and 2 rebounds. During a last-minute 53-52 win against Idaho State, he led all scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week award for Jordan Salley. Michael Weisner, a sophomore forward from Montana, is the runner up. Gelaun Wheelwright, a sophomore guard from Weber State, receives honorable mention. Idaho State has yet to win StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week.
